Chapitre 16. Ne me quitte pas.
Au cours des années, Sam a développé une passion pour le travail du bois. Prenant des heures pour ramener à la vie une collection complète de vieux rabots qu’il a tous utilisés, collectionnant les scies, les outils de toutes sortes, achetant des retailles de bois exotiques…
Sam regarde son banc de scie qu’il aimait d’amour se faire embarquer dans la boîte du pickup de son nouveau propriétaire.
– J’en ai fait des projets avec ce banc de scie là.
-C’est vrai. Les lits des enfants, les barrières d’escalier, le patio, des planches à découper, les meubles de la maison de poupée à Salty… Ça va te manquer, hein?
Sam reste assez silencieux. Ses mâchoires se serrent. D’habitude c’est parce qu’il est fâché contre moi. Mais aujourd’hui, je pense que c’est parce que son établi quasi complet part pour de bon, acheté par un ébéniste en herbe bien heureux de ses achats. Il a de la misère à le prendre.
Le tellement-beau-lit-bureau-tablettes-assorties que Sam a fait pour sa belle princesse.
Sam passe ses doigts sur ses yeux, feignant d’essuyer de la sueur. Il se tourne vers le nouveau propriétaire :
– C’est un peu fou à dire, mais t’sais. C’est du ben bon stock que tu as acheté. Choisi morceau par morceau. Tu peux toute faire avec ça.
Sa voix se noue un peu.
Le type est vraiment gentil et comprend que bien au-delà de voir partir des outils, Sam voit en fait partir une partie de sa vie qu’il aimait profondément.
– Fait du beau stock! Envoie-moi des photos de tes projets, tiens! Prends-en soin…
Le gars démarre son camion et s’apprête à partir. Il lève son bras en signe d’au revoir en criant :
-T’inquiète pas! Je vais toute mettre ça dans mon cabanon, bien barré.
Alors que le camion se fait de plus en plus petit dans la rue, Sam baisse la tête. Accuse le coup de la douleur de cet ultime coup de poignard dans le cœur. C’est une relation sentimentale presque romantique qui se finit en drame. Qui se finit dans un cabanon, en fait.
Si vous lui demandez, je suis certaine que Sam vous dira que vendre ses outils a été la partie la plus difficile de notre projet à ce jour.

P.S. Le gars était super cool, c’est toujours ben pas de sa faute si la place qu’il a pour entreposer les outils, c’est dans son cabanon hein!
