Chapter 8. Shit Happens.

This summer, we are taking our vacations with the kids on our current sailboat. I spent a lot of time preparing this trip. We want the kids to like it and we hope they’ll feel like home on the boat. But what if the weather is soooo hot, without a freezer? What if the nights are cold, without a heater? What if Matey is seasick everywhere on his bed sheets, without a washing machine? …

 

All of these questions are answered as of our departure.

 

-Did you really make a table for that Cass? Ask Sam surprised of how intense I can get sometimes.

-YES! LOOK ITS GREAT! I’ve put all the weather conditions on top and each row correspond to a part of the daily routine. I’ve filled out the table with what we need for everything. No matter the weather, we are prepared!

-You haven’t put “Snowing” in your table?

-Bad faith man.

-Hehehe! We cannot be prepared for EVERYTHING Cass.

-Pfff….bad faith again.

 

At the same time, the house is now for sale. We have to keep it tidy and clean as much as possible. Not always easy with Salty that discovered the joy of fingerprints in mirrors and patio door. Not always easy with Matey who let drooling spots on the floor, so much we can follow where he went that day. One morning, we were having a visit and we were getting ready to leave the house.

 

-Did you remove the dirty laundry of the basket?

-Yes Cass.

-Is Salty’s bed done?

-Yes…

-Are the cushions out on the patio so it looks cozy?

-Cass. We’re ready.

-I want us to have EVERYTHING prepared.

-Give me 5 minutes and I join you in the hall, Sam reply to exit the conversation.

-Ok, don’t take to much time, I want us to go in 10 minut…

 

“MOMMMMMMYYYYYYY!!!!!”.

 

It’s Salty.

 

-What sweety?

-I POOPED! she said super happily, proud at the same time.

 

I rush in the stairs and enter in her bedroom where she sits on her potty.

 

-Bravo pumpkin! That is great that you’ve done that alo…

 

I stop my sentence and take a time to realize what bothers me. HOLLY MOLLY!!!!

IT STINKS SHIT IN HER BEDROOM!! The healthy shit smell.

 

I open the window trying to vent as much as I can. The sent is unbearable.  Isn’t it supposed to be a cake that you bake in the oven before visits so it smells heaven!? Sam arrives in the bedroom.

 

-You’re coming Cass, it’s time to g…what are you doing?

-I am using this book to fan in the bedroom. It smells like shit!

-I don’t smell anyth… HOLLY CRAP!!!

-You said it! Pick up a book and help me to vent that bedroom!!! QUICK!!!!

 

As we are both venting the bedroom with the books like if we’d like to take off, I realize Sam was true. I wasn’t prepared for the smell management…

 

How do they say that: shit happens.
