Chapitre 21. Le compte à rebours
2 semaines avant que Sam ne quitte pour aller travailler au bateau, il parle avec son meilleur ami Vincent :
-T’es certain de vouloir prendre du temps de ton congé parental pour venir travailler avec moi au chantier naval? Tu sais, ça pue, ça va être chaud, la douche là bas sens les œufs pourris, j’ai pas de frigo vu qu’il faut que le bateau soit dans l’eau pour que ça marche. PIRE! Je n’ai que de la bière américaine à t’offrir à la fin de la journée.
Sam espère que Vincent refuse pour son propre bien, autant qu’il souhaite le voir retentir au bateau.
-Hahah! C’est sûr que je viens. Je vais être là 4 jours pleins. C’est pas tant, mais avec une planification intense, on est sûrement bon pour réparer toutes les fenêtres qui coulent comme tu le voulais. C’est sûr que ça aiderait que tu les enlèves au préalable…
-SUPER! Allons faire ce plan de match! Sam répond-il en remplissant le verre de vin de Vincent.
Ils descend dans l’atelier à Vincent pour préparer leur horaire. Ils rient comme des enfants à un party pyjama. Même si Mel et moi n’entendons pas ce qu’ils disent, on sait que leur plan sont TOUJOURS du grand n’importe quoi. TOUJOURS! Mais en même temps, aussi stupide que ça peut paraître sur le coup, en bout de ligne, ils finissent toujours par y arriver. Toujours.

Vincent arrive au bateau. Le plan est de réparer 8 fenêtres, changer le scellant, et les recoller. Comme ce n’est pas assez, Sam décide qu’ils auront le temps pour retirer le veneer qui recouvre le mur en plywood et le réparer car il a été abîmé par l’eau infiltrée. Et comme ce n’est toujours pas assez, Florence l’ouragan a empêché Sam d’ôter les fenêtres avant que Vincent n’arrive, parce que pas de fenêtres durant un ouragan…ça va pas aider pour l’infiltration d’eau hein! Oh j’oubliais: pas de voiture pour aller à la quincaillerie. Ça va? C’est assez de stock pour 4 jours à votre goût? moi aussi.
Vincent ignore qu’il vient d’arriver pour une semaine d’enfer.
Le compte à rebours est commencé.
T moins 4 jours.
-Hi boy Sam! Je suis pas capable d’ôter les fenêtre vite de même, ça arrache la fibre de verre.
-On va mettre une pression qui tire doucement doucement…pas le choix.
T moins 3 jours.
-Je l’ai Vince! La dernière fenêtre est enlevée.
-Y’était temps, le soleil se couche et on verra plus rien dans 15 minutes. Tu veux une bière?
-T’as le droit d’appeler ça de l’eau Vince.
T moins 2 jours.
-Tsé, je pense que même si c’est pas critique, on a le temps de changer le veneer avant de remettre les fenêtres. Ça te va Vince?
-Yeah! Certain! (Vincent est vraiment toujours partant pour tout)
…
-Oh non! Le plywood sous le veneer est pourri. Je peux pas remettre un veneer par dessus ça. Faut remplacer le plywood.
-Correct Sam, on va enlever le plywood avant de remettre le veneer avant de remettre les fenêtres! Ça commence à faire beaucoup…
-Vince, viens voir, le plywood pourri a contaminé une partie du pont. Faut le réparer aussi.
-Ok. Ajoutons ça à la liste.
T moins 1.5 jour, matin
-F***K!!! le plywood qu’on a acheté est trop épais! Faut aller en acheter un autre!
-Je peux pas venir voir Sam, je suis encore en train de préparer les fenêtres pour que le collage soit parfait. J’ai les mains pleines d’acétone.
-Je vais demander à Mike…MIKE!!!
(Mike a aussi un bateau qu’il répare au chantier naval. Et oui, il a fait la commission pour Sam. wow!)
T moins 1 jour, milieu de l’après-midi
-Vince, comment ça se fait que Mike est pas encore revenu?!
-Hey Sam…mes genoux suent! Tu penses tant qu’à faire qu’il peut nous emmener de la bière en même temps?
-Il fait 38 degrés Celsius dehors et 46 en dedans. Je vais appeler Mike après avoir texté Cass:
“Ça regarde vraiment mal pour les fenêtres Cassou…Tu me manques. 🙁 “
T moins 1 jour, fin de journée.
Il fait noir. Pas encore une fenêtre en place. Les patches de plywood à réparer sont à peine commencée.
-On y arrivera pas Sam.
-Je sais Vince. J’en ai trop pris…c’est ma faute.
Ils boivent tristement une bière triste, épuisés.
Dernier jour, 12 heures de clarté restante
-Hey Vince! Au moins ça va pas si pire pour les patches de plywood! Je suis content du résultat. C’est pas vrai avec tout le travail qu’on se tappe que je vais couper les coins ronds!
-Ee… Scuse moi Sam, je suis encore en train de préparer pour le collage. Si ce n’est pas parfait, tu vas avoir des zones mal collées et donc encore de l’eau dans le bateau.
Dernier jour, 5 heures de clarté restante
La préparation est quasi terminée partout. Mais…
-C’est trop chaud Sam. Je me suis pogné un coup de soleil sur les pieds. Je capote ça me prend une bière…ee..un break!
-Moi j’ai besoin des 2 Vince. Je vais m’écrouler. C’est brûlant. Je vais en profiter pour regarder ce que Mike nous a ramené comme scellant…. NOOOOONNNNN!!!!
-Qu’est-ce qu’y a Sam!?
-C’est un super petit tube!!!! ça nous sert à rien, il nous faut au moins 5 gros tubes!
-Je pense que j’en ai vu dans le bateau, c’est pas ça que t’aurait besoin là bas?
-OMG OUI! Tellement, amène ça ici vite!
Dernier jour, 4 heures de clarté restante
“Toujours pas de fenêtre installées Cass. Je suis désolé. 🙁 “
-Les fenêtres sont prêtes pour le collage. À l’heure qu’il est, ça nous laisse 30 minutes par fenêtre!
-Je suis prêt aussi. De toute façon Vince, chaud comme il fait, ça va coller plus vite que ça encore. Va falloir faire bien mais vraiment vite.
Dernier jour, 39 minutes de clarté restante
-MERDE VINCE!!! LE DERNIER TUBE EST VIDE!!! ON EST ENCORE À COURS DE SCELLANT POUR LA DERNIÈRE PUTAIN DE FENÊTRE!!!
-FU***K!!!!!
…Comme le désespoir et la rage ne pouvaient être plus intense, un ange passe… laissant une dernière chance d’accomplir un miracle.
-Sam! SAM!!!!!!!! LE PETIT TUBE DE TANTÔT QUE MIKE A AMENÉ. JE COURS LE CHERCHER!!!!
-OUI!!!!!!!! GO GO GO GO GO!!!! IL FAIT PRESQUE NOIR!!!!
Dernier jour, 6 minutes left of daylight
-FINIT!!!!! C’EST FAIT VINCENT!!! LA DERNIÈRE FENÊTRE EST COLLÉE!!!
-On l’a fait Sam … ON L’A TROP FAIT!!!! J’Y CROIS PAS!!!
-Hell yeah!!!! HIGH FIVE!!!!! VIENS ICI QUE JE TE FASSE UNE COLLE!!!
SQUIIIISHHHHH fait leur torses collés de sueurs alors qu’ils ne pourraient pas être plus épuisés et heureux.
PCHHHHHITTTTT fait la bière “Le champagne des bière” qu’ils débouchent pour célébrer. (Une bière triste malgré tout)
Ils l’ont vraiment fait. Cette fois, quand Sam m’a texté et dit qu’il n’y avait pas encore une fenêtre l’après-midi de la dernière journée, je m’étais préparé milles mots d’encouragement pour aider Sam à passer la déception immense qu’il aurait eu.
J’ai eu tort. Ils ont réussi. Comme TOUJOURS!
PS: Après plusieurs pluie intense, on confirme que les fenêtres sont bien scellées et qu’il n’y a plus d’intrusion. Le plywood structurel est réparé de même que le pont et en plus le veneer qui couvre le tout lui aussi est réparé au goût de mon mari très pointilleux. Aucun coins de coupés.
